Growing up in Michigan, I spent the long summer days playing outside from sunrise to bath time - riding dolls around in my bike basket, swimming in the plastic pool with my barbies and playing make believe with the neighborhood kids. During the frigid cold winters it was story writing, paper doll making and sewing doll clothes.
I attended the Children's Book Academy, The Craft and Business of Illustrating Children's Books. The classes were taught by Knof/Random House Editor, Julia Maguire and Mira Reisburg. I also attended published illustrator, Carrie Hartman's class, Children's Book Illustration at MCAD.
After raising two especially adorable daughters, I ended up in Minnesota where I live with my husband, my fat cat Gus and my skinny dog Phinny. I currently spend my days working on custom art pieces for clients - portraits of families, pets and grandkids - as well as honing my illustration skills. Maybe someday I'll write a story about my childhood :) I also opened an Etsy shop! www..etsy.com/shop/chelseamartinartist. Feel free to message me if you're interested in a custom portrait of your own!
I am influenced by M&M's (because chocolate), long nature walks and memories of an imaginative childhood filled with dolls and art and make believe!
I am currently a member of SCBWI.
